The 6823A is a Scalar Analyzer. The 6823A analyzer is an instrument which measures the complex transmission and reflection characteristics of two-port devices in the frequency domain.
The 6823A samples the incident signal, separating the transmitted and reflected waves, and then performing ratios that are directly related to the reflection and transmission coefficients of the two-ports.
The 6823A synthesized source has low phase noise and 1 Hz frequency resolution. VCOs are used for frequencies above 3 GHz and an integrated RF synthesizer for the 1 MHz to 3 GHz range.
Frequency is swept to rapidly obtain amplitude and phase information over a band of frequencies of interest.
