RF/Microwave Power Amplifiers convert low power signals into higher power signals. Key characteristics to know when selecting your Amplifier include desired gain, power output, bandwidth, power efficiency, linearity (low signal compression at rated output), input and output impedance matching, and heat dissipation. These amplifiers are rated into specific classes of operation which help users identify the amplifiers efficiency and linearity characteristics. Classes A, AB, B, and C are considered linear amplifiers, while classes D, E, and F are considered switching amplifiers. Linear amplifiers offer higher levels of signal linearity, while switching amplifier classes offer higher efficiency at the cost of decreased linearity.

In the test equipment industry most examples of Transconductance Amplifiers are designed for use in precision current generation used by calibration laboratories to verify meter accuracy. Transconductance Amplifiers generally have multiple output ranges, and may output current to 100 Amps or more.
Bi-Polar Amplifiers are operational amplifier instruments designed for amplification of arbitrary AC waveforms and sustained DC power. Bi-Polar Amplifiers generally can provide continuous output of signals across their rated output voltage, current, and power ranges. |
