The 8505A measures both phase and magnitude permitting characterization of either active or passive networks. The 8505A is an integrated design ecompassing both the swept rf source and receiver.

The 8505A measures amplitude and phase simultaneously with a resolution of 0.01 dB and 0.01 degree respectively. Group delays can be measured over a range of 0 to 80 �s with a resolution of 1 ns. Phase measurements can be displayed in a linear or polar (Smith Chart) mode.
The 8505A signal source sweeps the frequency range of 500 kHz to 1.3 GHz and can be set very accurately using the internal frequency counter. Sweep times can be varied from 10 ms to greater than 1 s. Output amplitude can be adjusted over the range of +10 dBm to -72 dBm.
